Hannibalianus
#1
Ave Civitas,

I am going crazy. I have been searching for a capital from where Hannibalianus would have governed Pontica in AD 335-337.

I originally thought that it was Caesarea Mazaka, however I receintly learned that Caesarea Mazaka was destroyed by Shapur I and never rebuilt. A near-by city was established with the same name by Basil the Great, but I am not sure when the new city was started.

What I want to know is:

Where was the capital of Pontica during the time that Hannibalianus was Rex Regnum?

Can anybody point me toward a source of that information?

Thanks,

Lothia.

Ave Civitas,

Ah, I have put the hemlock back in the cabinet. I do not need to end my torment after all.

Caesarea Mazaka was the capital.
Caesarea Mazaka was sacked by Shapur I.
A new city, Caesarea was built and later fortified by Juntinian.

However,
After the city was sacked, it did return to Roman hands and ( I can assume because nothing was said contradictory) continued as capital.
A new city was started by Gregory the Great, as a religious center, some small distance from Caesarea Mazaka.

The new city did supercede the original, but not immediately.

Problem solved, -.-.-.-.-.-.- I think.
