Romans in Paris
#1
OK I might go to Paris because of my sisters marching band in 2009 ( Grr, I want to go to Greece that year  ) Are there any roman riuns. If no, I'll spend the rest of the trip in the louvre, or at the train station eating the seafood platter ( Ok, I can't eat seafood. It's a joke from Mr. Bean )
Dan/Anastasios of Sparta/Gaius Statilius Rusticus/ Gaius Germanicus Augustus Flavius Romulus Caesar Tiberius Caelius (Imperator   )
Yachts and Saabs are for whimps!
Real men have Triremes and Chariots 8) 8) !

Gallo-Roman museum at St Germaine, just a hop skip and a subway ride from the Louvre, but the Louvre is good, and the French Military Museum / Napoleon's tomb can be interesting if not Roman.

No, you want to go to GERMANY in 2009. It's the 2000th anniversary of the Teutoberg Forest battle, with rumors of a mongo reenactment at Kalkriese!

Be there. Tell your sister she'll have to march without you!

Yeah, I would rather go to Germany
1. I know more german than french
2. I'd rather visit germany
3. I'm more german than french
4. The only french food I can eat is baguette
5. French resturants charges you $35 for a snail
6. I'll probably end up fantacising way too much and end up hallucinating that I'm one of Caesar's soldiers in Gaul
7. I'm afraid of going to France after seeing Mr. Bean's Holiday.

Snails are great, with a bit of wine.
The French have bread and cheese and meat, just like everyone else.

There is a Roman arena on the - wait for it - "rue d'Arènes". Relatively small and unimpressive but still there. I seem to recall the ruins of a Roman bath also but also not overly impressive and built over. On a different tack, if you are interested in ships, the Musee de la Marine at the Trocadero just up from the Eiffel Tower is worth a visit. The Greek/Roman/Egyptian artifacts at the Louvre are not to be missed!

I rather liked it -- I assume you're talking about the Cluny Museum.

There's also the Archaeological Crypt in front of Notre-Dame cathedral. Definitely don't miss the Louvre!

I should perhaps elaborate: We did not go on the tour for one reason or another but just walked by the building so my impression is strictly from the outside. I did march into the arena though and that was an interesting experience when I let my mind drift back though time...

If you do not have a lot of time, decide what you want to see at the Louvre first and see it thoroughly. Personally, I do not overly enjoy looking at rooms & rooms of paintings of dead folks from the renaissance etc. so I chose to hit the Mona Lisa, Venus De Milo, the Winged Nike of Samothrace & the Greek/Roman/Egyptian areas. It still took awhile due to the waste of time waiting in the crush around the Mona Lisa (she's small!). Also see the tomb of Napoleon 1er at the Invalides if you have the time to see one of history's great captains.

Its been about 9 years since I have been to Paris, but I know this isn't Roman but there is a middle ages museum in Paris. Also hotel invalids wear Napoleon is buried is really neat original uniforms and equipment dating back to the 17th century, they also have Napoleon's stuffed white dog. The crypt by the way dates from the roman period. And if you want American food there is always a restaurant called Indiana tex mex (lol).

I was to Paris this week (my wifes and mine first vacation for years).
Cluny is a mediaval museum, with a roman bath in the cellar, only few really loveless arranged parts are set in, what was used for animals in medieval times. The medival part of Cluny is very nice. Esp. the glass art.

Then there is the amphitheater of Lutetia, but the way wasn't it worth. the circle and his walls is there and to see, also a part of the sits, but it's build to the backside of regular houses and with a childrens part next to it... not very impressive anyway.
All information centres told me to visit St. Germain, and that it would be an hour trip to get there from Paris, but that time we hadn't.

I hope that was a help.

Hello.
I live in Paris and as it has been said before, there are "les arènes de Lutèces" which is not the most impressive
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ar%C3%A8nes_de_Lut%C3%A8ce
, and also the middle age museum set in a nice medieval mansion which was built in the roman bath.
Plus "La crypte archéologique" de Notre Dame.
There is also a very small roman fountain, but i don't remember where.

If you wish to see the Napoleon'tomb, you should visit at the same time "Le musée de l'armée" where you can see armours and uniforms from the middle age to the ww2 (the napoleonic section is closed until 2008). In the same place there is also "Le musée des plans et maquettes", unique museum which contains small models of cities made by Vauban for Louis XIV.

And last but not least.
Le "musée des antiquités nationales" set in the castle of St Germain en Laye. (nice town, nice park, nice castle).

Of course, the louvre and many others place to see.

But i'm afraid Paris is quite poor with roman ruins contrary to the south of france.
