Dan, there are only multi-site tickets AFAIK. If you only go to the Acropolis, it still costs 12E.
Ancient Mycenae is in the Peleponnese. There is a major highway from Athens to Corinth to Argos/Naflio. About 45 minutes south of Corinth is the turn-off to the village of Mykines and the site is through town a ways (there are signs). Is someone driving or are you taking a tour bus? It might be time to look on Amazon for a used Frommer's guide book to Greece. The prices might be wrong, but thay haven't really moved any of the sites (except for the Acropolis Museum). Frommer's, Fodors', and the Blue Guides are really pretty good at telling you what to expect.
Yes, bring a brimmed hat. The light in Greece is very bright. At least to my eyes. Also, you can get pretty sunburned awfully quick. Sunglasses are a must. You can't enjoy anything if you have a headache from squinting against the sunshine.
