EUREKA! I realized that I shouldn't fly directly to Athens, but some other major greek city (THessoloniki?)!

OK now I need to know how to travel from athens to epidavros, so then I have something to do on one day.

Hmmmmm, tha twould be a wasted oportunity, as you would miss Mycaenae, Arogos Naupilos....to name just a few of the places in the vicinity. Stay a few days in the area, a cheap B&B for 40euro, and bobs your uncle. Mind you I drove there, but possibly there are bus trips there, :?:

Google "Athens Epidaurus (Epidavros) Day Tours (Trips)". There are lots of tour bus companies (with guides) that do this. If you want to dream, Google sailing/boating from Athens' Piraeus port to Epidavros port, then busing to the theatre site. Some long day trips include the Epidaurus site, ancient Mycene, and perhaps one other site. Go to the Trip Advisor Greece forum. Lots of searchable info there from folks who have been there and done that.
Have fun checking stuff out! We rented a car for two weeks (but NOT in Athens itself) and saw tons of tour bus companies at these sites.

If you are staying in the "pedestrianized" area of Athens (all around the Acropolis and Plaka), trying to find a place to keep a rental car is a waste of time and energy. We rented at the airport, returned it to the airport, and took public transportation (or our feet) around "historic" Athens. You don't need a car in metro Athens. Save your now-weakened $$s for more-better fun than parking hassles!

Ok, I was refering to renting in Athens, then taking off....yes, I walked every where in Athens, the only way....and the metro is too good to miss in its own right!! this is making me think of a holiday again..... :roll:
But saying that ,I had no problems getting parked outside/near my hotel!

As for rental cars, I'll stick with the bus. I know gas is very expensive in Uerope (or anywhere, for that matter), the road signs are in greek, and it's mountanous. So that limits me to destinations with transportation to them.
