websites ect for buying bone?
#61
I thought I would post up a picture to illustrate which bones to look for.

The picture shows the nocks from the ends of four cannon bones - two front legs and two hind legs. The two on the left are the ones from the bones I used to make the grip (smaller nock) and the guard (larger nock) on my sword handle. You can see the shape of these two nocks compared to the nocks from the bones of the other legs (obviously these bones come from four different cows). I am not sure which are fore legs and which are hind legs but the picture should be useful in identifying the right bones to use. Sorry about the burn marks on one of the bones on the right - the pot I was boiling it in nearly boiled dry and the bone was slightly burnt. On the two bones at the left (the ones I ended up using) you can see that in addition to a 'rounder' shape, they have three indentations which resemble a three bladed propeller. The indentations on the nocks of the bones of the other leg are different. This should give another clue for recognising the right bones. If you get your's from a butcher as I did, the chances are that the only pieces of the bones you will get to see before buying them are the nocks, hence this posting.

I hope this helps.

You can make some "toys" with bone. Like that little gladiator:

Yes, thanks.

I always carry it in my purse...

Carving bone it's very funny and the pieces are always very "shiny".

I have carved too a little rabbit knife, but it's hard wood, not bone.
