Hi Matthias,

That's not exactly a broad period, is it? Just 4 years! Big Grin

 Hey, a lot can happen in four years!

Very true thats all it took the Allies once the U.S. joined them, to take care of Festung Europa and Japan.

Welcome as well to the new comers! All the best, Jon

Yes, and exactly the amount of time it took the US to withdraw from Vietnam.
AND exactly the amount of time it took Caesar to conquer Gaul.
AND exactly the amount of time it took Marcus Aurelius to win his war against the Markomanni.
AND exactly the amount of time....

There must be a secret plan somewhere in this....

What ?! How do you figure that ?

I always read that it took 8 years to conquer Gaul and MA was constantly at war with the Marcomanni for well over a decade ... :? Both of these wars were concluded at lightning speed by the Romans' standards and they had a free hand in which they conducted them (i.e. no "human rights" to worry about, etc).

Dacia took decades to conquer, Spain took over 2 centuries, and the Punic Wars lasted over 100 years. Multigenerational wars seem to be just as common as shorter wars, at least during the Republic and early Empire.

I am christopher mattingly (caius matinius mattius) of the xiiii legion in the glorious area of oregon. I am a soldier in the US army and have been for the past 6 years. I have many years under my belt as a living historian for the American Civil War, The Revolutionary War, and The 1745 Jacobite risings. I started my interest in ancient rome when i was in iraq and picked up a copy of colleen mccullough's the grass crown. Thank you ahead of time for the help you will provide to this "fresh fish" of the legions.
