Sorry, couldn't resist that... It used to be said that the Great Wall of China was the only man-made thing you can see from space. Thanks to the satellite coverage made accessible by Google maps/earth, Hadrian's Wall is visible around Newcastle (including the 10m stretch next to Charlie Brown's at Denton Burn) and, astonishingly, some entanglement/pitfalls apparently under excavation in Byker (or soon after) - there is some relevance to this observation, as the recently published Arbeia Journal vol.8 (2005) contains the publication report on that excavation (which enables us to date the Google images to between September 2000 and February 2001). The volume has even more on those entanglement thingies, including the ones excavated at Throckley (where the Vallum is clearly visible as a crop mark on Google maps/earth) and is well worth acquiring from the Arbeia Society.
