What with all the recent discussion on felt and its uses, here's a webpage on making felt. Doesn't look as difficult as I always thought, and the kiddies paddling pool could be good for the superhot summers expected:

True, it's not rocket science. But from the experience we had two years ago it is not *quite* as straightforward as that. Still, sounds like a fun summer project.

I have a friend who does felt-making; it's quite time-consuming and a lot of effort (RSI can be a problem), but the results are amazing, though not exactly appropriate for military use (brightly coloured slippers anyone?). I'll ask her if she's got any useful hints if you're going to spend your summer up to your elbows in the stuff.
