I am making a fancy sheath for a friend, I have a dolabra to put the shaft on so thought rather than something basic I'd push the boat out, this is what I am going to make;
The only snag is the Dolabra has a different cutting edge so I have to bespoke the design to fit the blade, and the melon beads are different but should look like it me hopes
As you can see work in progress so will post as I go along

Managed to get a little further than I thought today, for such a small job taken a lot of hours to make
I have got to take my hat off to the origonal maker, also the fact how it survived intact. No matter how well you make it, the amount of abuse it must have seen. Hope to finish it by tommorow.

Just about finished the sheath, just the Dolabra to shaft. The origonal without scale must have been wider as the beads are bigger and the profile narrower. I am quite pleased With the finish, a bit more bling even if mundane
here's the pics,
Hope you like will post when I finish the Dolabra ect.

Thank you Jurgen
it is amazing to see not only the variations but the few different methods of how they are made. The only thing to me is why ? go to that level of decoraton. I wonder is it rank or to indicate a specialist engineer core or just pride in there kit. Looking at even the variation in dolabra heads I was just wondering that they may have just made from leather as issued and someone came up with making them from metal and then soldiers upgraded to them.

Been busy up the Fabrica working on the shaft for the head, I was given a dirty piece of ash so I did a bit of shapeing with spoke shave and cleaned all the wood back, so just need to attach the head on after I clean the head up a bit
