Hi all,
I have a repro Pugio + scabbard form Hod Hill in Dorset. Reading the book "Pugio-Gladius Brevis Et" by Mr Marco Saliola and Mr Fabrizio Casprini, they state that the location of this item is unknown. A very good book and I am in no way doubting their findings, but, surely such an item would have found its way to the British Museum? Anyone know where this item is please?
Pic attached showing repro and drawing of original.
Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Hi again
Sorry Tony, thanks for your hard work but......That pic is no way the Hod hill Pugio Scabbard.
If it is........then someone needs shooting in the preservation Dept.
My search is still on.

Kevin I am 99% sure it is, it has the crosses and the chevrons, the drawing may be from a xray but it has the right hand side turn on the plate on the tip as in the drawing but it is not on the British Museum website probably Crispvs will be the guy to confirm this

Hi again,
Many thanks for your input Tony.
It is much appreciated. Looks odd though, don't you think.
Will ask Crispus here, and if I see him.
Basic Question.....Does anyone know the where abouts of above item please.

Kevin I have drawn finds from excavated sites so not odd to me, if conservation is going to have a bad effect on a item, then conserving it as is is the only way to preserve it. So xray is the least intrusive way to examine the object.

I have contacted the BM for info on objects and have been very helpful so drop them a email.
The dagger is used on the display in the BM

Sorry - I only just saw this. There are actually three sheaths from Hod Hill in the BM, two of type 'A' and one type 'B'. The reproduction you posted up is modelled on one of the two type 'A' sheaths and it it is definitely in the BM. Anyone writing a book on pugios should have known that.
