Thanks all- lot of credit to Peronis who re-worked the Burgh helmet for me.
Now to make a thin 4th century baldric.....and a 5th century Dorchester belt!

The Deir el Medineh spangenhelm can be seen on the Arch of Galerius (3rd C), so perhaps I can get away with the Vimose type baldric?!

Yes, Adrian, but never with square tabulae and a broad belt...

It\'s all an accident, an accident of hands. Mine, others, all without mind, from one extreme to another, but neither works nor will ever.

Very nice impressions. Perhaps I should try and post up my early impressions so you guys can help me out with belts, pugios, and other arcane items.

Quote:So for the moment, wearing grandfather's spatha and baldric...! All tips and suggestions very welcome!
Hi Paul - somehow I missed this discussion (I've been away from RAT too much these past weeks).
Very nice you guys!
I recognise the red shield from earlier RMRS pictures, and must confess that part of the FECTIO design is based on that one!
Very nice reworked Burgh, I recall that the cheek pieces were a bit oddlly shaped (plus that nasty accident with the nasal...).
Paul, your tunic seems a bit too narrow as well as short?
But I'm still gutted you won't be at Archeon this year!!!

This my impression of a Gallo-Germanic cavalry explorator in Roman Service.

That is the image I would expect for one of Arminius' henchmen....
I probably have the timing wrong...but excellent impression!
