yeah the paintig was just the general direction i wanted to go
the goal of this project is for me to reenact an auxiliary infatryman of the 9.batavian cohort
this unit in particular because it was redeployed ner me in passau (castra batavis) after their time in vindolanda
the pictures are not quite showing the actual state of things, i did some additional painting on the shield, reworked the hilt of my gladius, and i am going to get some decent feminalia (the pants on the photos are original for my birka viking reenactment )
A few pictures of me and my group based in Oslo, Norway

Eight of us at an event in Germany last summer. Foam sword larp, thus the silly shields.

At a combat event a few years ago. I think it was about 15 degrees below zero, thus modern pants and mittens along with the proper gear.
The shields are built more for combat than historical accuracy, so we have taken a few shortcuts. They are plywood covered in linen, with rawhide edgings, so they won't notch blades so much, and the paint is regualr oil paint for house walls and such.

Also, most of the helmets on display are bodged together from old army helmets, and as such quite far from historical. Pretty damned solid though!
