That would make it Ulpia Serdica...but I see no railway!!
Moi Watson
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Merlot in one hand, Cigar in the other; body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO, what a ride!

I think you've gone too far SSW, Moi. It seems to be Sostra (Lomets), which has only relatively recently been excavated. Would that be correct, Alexander?

M. CVRIVS ALEXANDER (Alexander Kyrychenko) LEG XI CPF
The good thing about this thread is that it I learn something new.
The bad thing about it is that the list of places I want to visit is growing longer and longer! Novae is certainly on the list and this looks a fabulous place too - thank you Alexander!
PS. Thank you for the notice board picture...now where's the dictionary ;-)

Apart from explaining what the principia was for, the board says that it was built by cohors II Mattiacorum in the middle of the 2nd century and destroyed in the end of the 4th following the defeat of Emperor Valens at Adrianople. Here is the legend in English:

It's either in Anatolia or Syria, I think anatolia because of the mountains, but there is that one fort in Syria that I remember something about the Persians with, trying to think of the name.
