First of course I have to declare an interest. This is our (the Ermine Street Guards) magazine and one of the articles is mine on a visit to Vindolanda.
That being said it has a lot to recommend it and indeed Peter Connolly's and David Hare's articles should be required reading for all 1c reenactors.
Peter has all the low down on the new Pila which are appearing in ever larger nos at our displays all well illustrated and supported. Basically big and unbendy is replacing thin and bendy.
Equally David's article seems to be saying that all our swords are too wide and possibly too long. Again the narrow gladius is more and more evident on our displays. Somewhere I hope there still exists the original for the Standard Guard size as my gladius is rather special to me having parts made by my late father.
Len Morgan of the XIV has been given the right to reply on tunics if anyone can stand more of that.
I note the question on back issues . I am down at HQ in 10days for the Xanthen trip and I shall have a look.

I never received any email reply to my request for information about this journal, or to my request for subscription information here in the USA or to my asking about back issues. Perhaps my messages were lost in cyberspace. Of course, the idea of someone archiving the back issues on the Internet for educational purposes is not a bad thought, either.

I have been waiting another week, but whoever is "in charge" of the email has not bothered to reply to my request for information, cost and back issues.
Maybe I could get someone in the ESG unit to get me Exercitus copies in return for some consideration. I don't know why there has been no response.

Having to wait for a reply was the reason I ended up not joining the ESG. I didn't get a reply to my first letter and by the time the ESG replied to my second letter I had tired of waiting and had found another equally good group to join. I did join later as an associate member though, in order to get copies of 'Exercitus'.

hmmm, been waiting over a month on this latest attempt to contact whomever is the Exercitus POC. That includes two follow up emails.
I'd love to get a couple of copies of current and back issues, one for my personal library, another to loan out to the fellows in my group. Still no answer.

Still no contact returned from whomever is "in charge" of ordering this
journal. Is there any possibility that someone with actual contacts with the ESG can find out what an American would have to do to get copies?
I know some guys are managing to get the Exercitus, here in the USA, what did you have to do? How did you make contact?????? What is the deal????
:x
