The Louvre in Paris is sending 184 Roman works of art , including the famous Praetorian relief to tour the USA. This is the largest collection of Roman works ever to leave Paris.
I must have missed this but it opened in Indianapolis in September, is now at the Seattle Art Museum, Washington until 11th May, and then goes to the Oklahoma City Museum of Art from 19th June to 12th October.
The Praetorian relief (AD 51-52) , originally part of the Arch of Claudius, was found in Rome, documented in 1577 and was part of the Mattei collection until 1615., and acquired by the Louvre in 1824.
The soldiers heads in high relief, part of the body of the soldier at the far left, and part of the eagle and thunderbolt are 16th century restorations. Hopefully you can see in the picture some of the joins between the original and the restoration?
Cheers
