I used a coathanger too when I measured my head
My head has almost exactly the same dimensions as yours... Freaky
hock:
You will have the same fit problems whit the deepeeka helmets as I have. They will be a good fit front to back, but much too wide side to side.
What time period are you doing? This will help for me to advise you more specificaly. I have several new deepeeka helmets (Gallic A, Gallic F, Coolus E, Coolus G) and have tried on a couple other types my commilitones (Gallic G and H) own.
Of the gallic types deepeeka offers the Gallic A fits me the best. It is one of the larger helmets of the line, lengthwise (22cm) but it's also one of the narrower types (18cm). This means the bowl is quite oval. The other gallic types are very round (21cmx19cm I think). My gallic F is even rounder (21cmx20cm). The problem I have with these helmets is that there is a large gap between the cheekplates and the top of my face. When you add the cheekguard padding (which you should always do with a helmet) this problem is partialy solved but sometimes this isn't enough.
This weekend I removed the cheekguards of my Coolus G and reattached them a good deal more to the front. This resulted in a very good fitting helmet. The cheekguards conform to my face very well now, and the gap is almost gone/invisible. I will try this to my gallic F too one of these weeks.
The Coolus E fits very well without repositioning the cheekguards. What I did do to this helmet was bending the hinge tubes of the cheekguards inwards so they are in line with the rim of the bowl. I used a pair of pliers for this. Originaly the cheekguard hinges were bent outwards, adding a lot to the gap between head and cheekguards. Almost all deepeeka helmets have this problem with the cheekguard hinge tubes, but it can be solved without to much problems.
The Italic type with the eagle and temple is a very bad fit for me... It really is too wide for my head, no repositioning of the cheekguards will help here (and it is only just large enough lengthwise for me to wear comfortably).
The Gallic H and G type are also a good fit lengthwise, but too wide side to side. The cheekguards are also a bit too short for me.
So I can conclude that the Gallic A and Coolus E fit me best. The Coolus G fits me well too, with repositioning of the cheekguards.
The best fitting helmet I own is one made by Dean Cunningham. This one was made to size, and it's a lot smaller than the ones from deepeeka.
