Ade,
do you or anyone else know what sources Red Rampant is using for the illustrations of the auxilia shields? The site Mentions TC's Column and Connoly. I was wondering if there was another source they might be pulling from.
Cheers!!

Yes Mike,
It's a now out-of-print book by Lino Rossi entitled "Trajan's Column and the Dacian Wars".
His explanation of the use of the laurel wreath could be expanded upon by the suggestion that it was depicting a 'Corona Civitas' and that the soldiers on the Column carrying these shield patterns are representative of units that received block citizenship from Trajan (as many did after the first Dacian wars) and were awarded the suffix cR. (civium Romanorvm)

Ade,
He did, and that was the pic that I posted here. I also checked the link to the Trajan's column, but they have the same size image there - I guess, that is where you got it from.
I just wanted to see those curly parts on the top and the bottom in better resolution.

While Rossi had some interesting thoughts on the shield designs on Trajan's column, many of his hypotheses are simply wrong, and were debunked many, many years ago........ so be careful using Rossi as a source :?
