Had the Romans paint that sticks properly on metal ?
Especially since it is subject to a lot friction.
Putting it on, taking it off. Hilt of the pugio and gladius scratching the plates.
Sweaty arms moving past it.
I wonder.

Cordus,
What are the images on your phalarea?
Do you have a website for your legion?

Right, I'm back. Sorry for the delay.
You might have seen the Corbvlo-website by now and noticed that it is not really a legion as much as a group of assorted weirdos and whackos.
But I love them anyway....
The Phalarae I'm wearing in the pics are soon to be replaced by a new set.
One of ten silvered, very detailed images of deities, emperors, ladies and animals. So you're just in time with your question.
The current set is in bronze and based upon the one worn by the famous Aquilifer Gnaeus Musius. So basically it's concentred circles.
I'm going to use them for another costume in the future.
Thanks for your interest.
Cheers,
Wim.

Wim, having just visited your site I note in the section of on rituals one of your priests has the rather odd looking "cap" with the spike/rod on top. Do you have any better or higher resolution images of this? And info on how it was made and by whom? I am looking to expand on the religious side of our unit and want to look into this impression.
Many thanks

Hi Maximio / Pete,
I reckon you noticed our residential teletubby.
His cap is, at the moment, still very much a work in progress.
It was made by the man wearing it; Cvmitiacvs
He can tell you loads more about his attire than I can.
I'll send you his e-mail address in a PM.
Just tell him I send you.
B.t.w. I noticed in the pictures on your site you were in Rome at the same time I was.
Remember that melodious (some say horrendous) sound of a Tuba-horn near you. That was me.
Cheers,
Wim / Cordvs

We were also at Kalkriese at the same time too Wim!
Indeed, and I am still very grateful to the ladies you kept sending round with water to hydrate us.
Thanks for the teletubby address, I shall get onto him.

Going around with water was originally my wife's idea.
Now you know why I married her.
By the way she says, and I quote "You're welcome"
You coming to the continent again by any chance.
Cheers,
Wim.
