Given the still contradicting news ( I too found no confirmation in any press release) I've asked mrs. Grote of the APX if she can clarify this.

This was a bitter end of a event.
Seeing the flash, hearing the bang, hear people scream.
After that it was quiet.
When I checked if I could be of any help, everything did happen in a matter of seconds, the wounded people were already looked after by participants, bystanders and medics.
All went fast, calm and professional.
After the heavy rain stopped, participants formed a small cordon and directed visitors in a calm way away from the danger zone.
This was done until the THW, Firedepartment and Security took over.

My thoughts go out to the people who were wounded, their families, everyone who helped the wounded and all who saw this accident happen.
Regards

Garrelt

Hi to all!

Here's the response of the museum, strongly contradicting the rumour. This is great news!

Hallo Herr Karremans,
ich weiß nicht woher diese Nachricht stammt, aber sie ist definitiv falsch. Das Mädchen lebt und ist außer Gefahr.
Beste Grüße, U. Grote

You did very well to do that. Rumors must not get lives of their own. Thanks.

I'm really glad to hear the little girl is still here! That was really bad news, if it had been true!
Lets hope she has a speedy recovery!

Here is a link to a video taken from under the arches of the arena. You can see the reflection of the lightning on the wall of the arch and behind the statue is were lightning struck.

And here is a link to "De Gelderlander", it is in Dutch. It says there was also a shockwave hurting people a hundred meters from the impact. Another article in "De Gelderlander" mentioned a hole in the ground a meter deep caused by the impact!!

I'm very happy to hear that the girl not only is still alive, but also stable. I guess she has a very long road to recovery ahead of her.
Would it be a good idea to try - at some future date of course- to contact the parents (through the APX maybe) and maybe visit her if and when she's getting better? Or maybe we could raise money if that would be necessary? Just a thought.

It seems to be the same as this one. I had to smile about that comment about " the crowds were forced to shelter under an ancient viaduct".. the 'ancient viaduct' being the arches of the arena - a modern reconstruction.

Yeah, it´s a really good idea.
I´m not a really good Organisator, but Patricia, the friend who tells me that the girl is dead, works sometimes as freelancer in the APX. Maybe she can get the adress from the girl and his family?

My personal view on this matter:

This should be handled in a very delicate way. At best, we discuss who wants to take part, and what form the action could take.

PROVIDED

That the victims and their families even want to be bothered.

At best, we could ask the organisers (APX) if they are willing to pass a proposal from us to thee victims' families. We should NOT try to get in touch with the families ourselves. That could be unnecessary hurtful.

IF the families see a positive aspect in our proposal, we could make an arrangement. I can imagine that they would not want to be bothered, or maybe they'd see it as a positive thing.

How about that? First decide here, then ask the APX, only then maybe contact.
