For the Glory of Rome: A History of Warriors and Warfare

Quote:Ross,

The title is still listed as a "pre-order" on the U.S. Amazon website. I'll be ordering a copy though.

Best of luck with the volume's critical and lay reception.

Rob

Many thanks, Rob. Big Grin

I have to be honest and say that it is very rare that I manage to finish any book that I start because I begin to lose interest. So I am far more likely to have a tendency to dip in and out books rather than read them right through.

However as I was laid up in bed recently I began to read Ross Cowan's book 'For the Glory of Rome'. It was easy to read, sustained my interest throughout and was packed with many stories about the Romans that I had not come across before and yes I managed to read it from cover to cover!

Graham.
"Is all that we see or seem but a dream within a dream" Edgar Allan Poe.

"Every brush-stroke is torn from my body" The Rebel, Tony Hancock.

"..I sweated in that damn dirty armor....TWENTY YEARS!', Charlton Heston, The Warlord.

Thanks Graham!

The quality illustrations by a certain artist also help make the book. ;-) )

I just got off the phone with my wife, Kathy, who is the manager of the local Barnes and Nobels. The book is available in the US, and if it is not on the shelf, can be ordered by your local B&N, or through the internet. Mine is on the way.

I got mine last week. I didn't inspect the book closely, but it seems to be a good buy.

I got mine in four days. If Barns & Nobles has them in the US warehouse, which they do, the turnaround is very fast. This should be on the shelf, anyway. There is a lot of anecdotal detail in the book set within an analytic framework, which is difficult to do while still presenting a very pleasant reading style, in addition to depth. Good job, Ross...

I've added it to my Amazon Wish list. Judging from the index topics, the book seems to contain lots of information ... the Warriors and Poets section especialy caught my eye. Hmm, scalping, drinking blood, *and* singing songs, now that *is* interesting ...
