Sorry all,
I had not thought to check the RAcom projects forum recently and missed this. I agree that it is a great idea and I would be very happy to be involved in it. However, as many of you know already, I am something of an incompetent with technology and I find the thought of any editing of websites a bit frightening to tell the truth. However, I could probably learn. Like Martin though, I do not have an awful lot of free time these days. I do, of course, have a number of photos and drawings but none of them were taken or done by me, although quite a number were taken for me or passed on to me by other RAT members. I could possibly re-draw some drawings I already have and get them scanned, along with my own reconstructions of some which I feel have been wrongly reconstructed in the past. It occurs to me too, that if we had a team of photographers in different places we could rapidly build up our own collection of photos. With a set of guidelines for what sort of photos to take (which I suggest should be directly front-on with as little foreshortening as possible, from the side to give an accurate idea of thickness of blades, handles and sheaths and wherever possible all photos to have some idea of scale) we could build a useful collection which would allow for useful comparisons and the genuine potential for learning. @ Luc & Marcus - thanks for your willingness to help!
@ Crispus - glad to hear you are in for this as you are probably the most knowledgeable person on this topic here on the board! I suggest we take this on without haste, discussing guidelines and such thoroughly and adding to it bit by bit. Well, with a lot of real life going on at the same time and most of us having some SO's interfering ;-) ) , we won't have much of a choice anyway ... Still, methinks, the future for this looks bright :-) )
