The enemy is less likely to get wind of an advance of cavalry, if the orders for march were passed from mouth to mouth rather than announced by voice of herald, or public notice. Xenophon

Is this the picture you refer to?

That's not Late Roman. It seems more like a swash 'n buckler medieval costume. The boots are way too high, leather trousers could exist but are not common, his tunic has a weird opening at the front.
Why don't these people just buy one of Graham Sumner's books instead of ransacking the sets of 1960s movies over and over again? Late Roman clothes are so easy to make (compared to 14th-c garb, e.g.), so why don't they do it?

Sigh... Cry

I thought it looked Scytho-Saxon or something, the Scythians wore leather trousers...the boots look like Doc Martins or combat boots and may not be part of his normal costume...in one of the shots there is a dark skinned warrior? with long hair and what looks like someone in classic Roman kit next to him...but it is not clear enough to check the details

you can see their back view in this, to the left of the horses,

I am sorry, i should have been clearer. When I said "late roman" i meant "last roman" as in the fall of the eastern empire in the fifhteenth century. That should fit nicely with his medieval swashbuckling appearance, shouldn't it?

I suspect an unhealthy mix of Xena- gear and classic roman plastic weapons. Do not expect anything better from the story- As historical authencity goes, it is absolutely dreadful and completely unbelievable. I mean really bad. It is also horribly dull. It does touches on a few interesting subjects, and the roman empire comes off as "good thing. But otherwise it is terrible.

What is even worse is that the writer supposedly is a classic scholar. Nothing in the book hints that the writer knows anything about ancient history, military or otherwise. The story reads like a bad action movie, and the cover on my edition blatantly states that it was written with cinematic adoption in mind. I do not think it will be salvageable, and anything better than a dreadful movie will surprise me greatly.

I have higher hopes for the boudicca project or vin diesels "hannibal".

Greetings,
some more updates to cast....
Vortigern now has a face...or rather a voice and mask - I assume!
and Lucius Vorenus is going to be confusing everyone when he becomes a nasty Wulfila lol: [url:aik59m4p]http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0462396/fullcredits
Colin Firth site has been updated and new pictures in Gallery [url:aik59m4p]http://firth.com/lastleg.html I assume they are the 'Barbarians', some of them do not look too bad....and at least it looks like their own long hair in most cases.....
There is a very short BBC preview clip in there too.

however, if they are the Romans........ Confusedhock:
I have to admit I am rather disappointed and trying to be fairly optimistic, because the film is 'Arthurian', but Colin Firth is worrying about his LEGS....or is that LEG Nova Invicta and LEG XII Draco. Big Grin
