Quote:Indeed! Congrats for sourcing a sword-smith who knows his stuff!

I must thank Christian for that one. He put a thread up almost a year ago about his gladius and it has gone on from there. XorX has been very patient with my prevarication and also enlisted his friends to do some of the scabbard work. It'll have good old English holly in the hilt though!

I, too, can't wait to get it in my sticky little mitt!! Tongue (although it won't be sticky when I do!)

Quote:I'll second that!

Repros that are actually accurate are scarce birds. They're also costly. So I congratulate Moi, knowing about the out-laying of moola from personal experience.

I refuse to get excited until I have it in my hand...

But I am very grateful to XorX for doing this and, although the outer work done by Stefan makes it beautiful to behold, the weight and balance makes it the sword I have hoped for Smile

The gods have been good and given me internet connectivity this evening so I can tell you all that this sword is the most masterly piece of craftsmanship - it is much, much more beautiful "in the flesh".

It is so light; the hilt fits my hand like a glove and frankly you don't even realise you are holding it - it is just there, an extension of my arm.

I feel so lucky to have it. I am taking it to bed with me tonight so that when I wake up in the morning I know it isn't a dream Tongue

I am also going to call my insurers tomorrow...

I'm really pleased for you- it looks superb. Great to hear that it is a living blade rather than the iron bars in a rough sword shape that we see all too often. And the detail is superb- for example, I like the way that the chape echoes the decoration elsewhere. Fantastic sword.
