Reproduction Coolus by Primvs and CLANG
#1
The helmet I chose to reproduce is a copy if a Coolus E from Xanten.

The only changes were the addition of feather tubes to the side of the helmet. The feather tubes were copied from a Coolus G found at Drusenheim. (sorry no pic available)

I had to compromise my brow guard attachment method since I did not have bronze material thick as the original. My helmet has the browguard cut from 3mm bronze with tabs twisted, and flattened to form the attachment brackets.

Cheekplates are copies of cheek plates from the Schaan helmet in the Landesmuseum in Zurich.

Materials used in the construction are 3mm thick bronze for the main body of the helmet, and the brow guard. The cheek plates were cut from 1mm thick sheet bronze and assembled with copper rivets. The final polish was done by hand with 220 grit sandpaper.

Myself, and Mark Berry from CLANG Armoury built the helmet using various hammers, a large Beverly shear, and Whitney punches, and plenty of swear words.
