Battlefield Archeology at Gelduba

l.......that is modern Krefeld-Gellep (D).
What had been planned as a routine "quick 'n dirty" survey near a Roman camp at a building-site at Gellep, turned out to become one of the bigger excavating efforts in Germany nowadays.

As it turned out they have excavated more than 35.000 square meters.

The whole process yielded more that 75 cubic metres ( not cubic feet ! Cool ) up to now.

Bachground: This is a battlefield firmly dated to 69AD. Romans versus "rebelling" Batavians.
All news written in german -- but there are pics , and .....
They will need quite a while to asses what they have found there by now,
but there will be a special exhibition the nearby museum Burg Linn.
