Yes the Archaeolink site is a lesson, many of these initiatives have taken a dive recently, the Wild Flower Centre and Butterfly World have both tanked. With Archaeolink my guess is the flaw was location and pumping too much capital into the visitors centre and it's expensive architect (shades of the Earth Centre). Having had a look around Butser and co I think a secured site with visitor facilities already in place could start to make modest inroads into a roundhouse education element for a few tens of thousands. Might even score a revenue stream to assist in maintenance;
