well Picenum is in central Italy, I read somewhere (need to remember where though) that there was enough army in Northern Italy to stop him anyhow , probably he knew that and as the south was already defeated he marched away from the danger. He was also discussing with pirates about crossing over to Iliricum. Probably also the loot in the south was attractive.
