Finally got one, in bronze! It has a 10mm socket opening. The walls actually aren't that thick, but the socket's only 19mm deep.
Cincinnati Dowel sells ash in 5/8" and 3/4". I'd prefer the 5/8" so as not to look outsized compared to the point itself, but do you think it would be prone to breaking after repeated throws into cardboard boxes or straw bales?
I figure the bit where it actually enters the socket will be the weak point, and of course that would be the same thickness no matter the shaft's overall diameter, but of course a break in the middle of the shaft would be even more ruinous because you can't just shorten it a bit like if the tapered tip broke.
