Using Rome: Total War in the Classroom
#12
Quote:...at no point am I suggesting anyone take this or any other sim game at face value. It is a representation of popular history and like all representations popular and professional, it should be critiqued rigorously with historical evidence.

First I want to thank you for your post. It is not often that any professional feels the need to respond to critique done in internet forums by mainly anonymous members. It only shows that you hold this particular forum in more respect than others of its kind. As for your answer, I personally feel covered. For a class of 9th graders, RTW might indeed be enough "to warrant using the game as an interpretation of the past" and as we all acknowledged, games can be a powerful tool to inspire interest in class. It was the generalized application of this statement, which I thought you suggested, that I personally disagreed with. Keep the good work in class and again thanks for your reply.
