Hinges, Do I need to anneal before forming the bar

The title pretty much sums up the questions. I'm using .032 hobby store brass. I cut it into rectangles to prepare for the forming of the barrel. Tried one earlier with my vise and the barrel came out more teardrop shaped that I expected. Should I anneal it before forming the barrel? I haven't worked with this brass enough to know if it comes from the store anneals,half hard, or full hard.
