Or would you say that it is probably a horsegear fitting?There are only two studded straps I can think of that you might mean – the Mainz one, that is only depicted in a woodcut in Alterthümer unser heidnischen Vorzeit 2 (not domed) and one from a 2nd/3rd-century cavalry harness set from Celles-les-Waremmes (domed).
