Given the frequency with which it is mentioned, E. Ritterling's entry "Legio" in the 1925 _Realencyclopaedie_ (XII.2) (please excuse the umlaut-deficiency), must be a truly valuable source. I've never been able to locate a copy -- I don't read German well, but could possibly work it out, with help. Is it in the public domain? Making a version available online would be a very welcomed contribution. Of course, an English translation would be even better!)
