Dutch mayor raises prostitute plan

A Dutch mayoress has raised eyebrows by backing the idea of sending prostitutes to accompany Dutch troops on foreign missions.


"I don't think my wife would find it a good idea," Wim van den Burg, a spokesman for the military service trade union told Dutch newspaper Volkskrant.

What I find interesting here is not the suggestion of women being sent with the soldiers (camp followers after a fashion) but that the soldiers have a Union.

That must make for some tricky situations concerning discipline, assignments, promotions, etc. etc. etc.

Of course, we do have all manner of associations and groups in the US Army for officers, NCO's and enlisted troops, and perhaps they function in the same way as the Dutch Military Union.

Still, the title union (and all its connotations) conjures up some interesting images...
