Ancient Rome: the Rise and Fall of an Empire
#65
Alaric was visigoth king.
I think Alaric was crucial in the process of decomposition of the Roman Empire of West.
He plundered the city for six days in August of 410 and removing I obtain as booty the sister of the emperor, Galla Placidia.
He dies in Cosenza after a long agony, 35 years. His royal successor was Atalulf, king until 410-415.He wanted destroy completely the Roman Empire and to found a Gothic Empire. In 412 he enters in touch with the emperor Honorio and signs an agreement of alliance for which Rome promises to give provision (annona) and the transfer of land in the Galia in exchange for returning to his sister Galla Placida. In January of 414 he marries for surprise with Galla Placidia (according to Roman rite), producing the ire in Honorio Ataúlfo in a strategic maneuver simulates to abdicate in Attalo , but Honorio realizes the snare ; cuts the provisions that were coming of the ports under his power, which the Galia forces him at the beginning of 415 to leave towards Roman Spain, five years after they were making it the suevos, Vandal and wolf hounds. Exactly in Barcino(Barcelona), where he installs his court. In there will be born the son who had with Galla Placidia called Teodosio, with which he was trying to join the Goths with the Romans, but unfortunately he will die some months later. In this epoch continue some politics of understanding and approximation with Rome, which produces hatreds in his court. Few years later in 415, he was murdered.
