If weight is a problem then it is likely that your reconstruction is too heavy. A hamata should weigh under 20 lbs. A belt around the waist will help though. If it is cinched tightly it will take some of the weight off the shoulders and redistribute it on the hips. If it is too long then remove a few rows of links from the bottom. You can also try thicker shoulder padding on your subarmarlis to help the shoulder doublings sit comfortably.
