Alexander again?
#8
The image is of Apollo as "Sun Victorious"
Solar sumbols are definitly identified in the hoplite shields from the Archaic Era. The star is not a Star but the Sun. In classical era it ususaly is shown with 8 rays but in the hellenistic period with 16 rays. Bronze age seals and pottery fron Doris has both depictions. So you see it is quite old.
Possibly Alexander offered shields with the sun silvered to his Hypaspists hense in the Successors period they were known as "Argyraspides" literally "silvershields"
Kind regards
Stefanso
