Yeah, I have a book about his movies and thier creative development / concept art, that Lucas was eating lunch - his favorite: cheeseburger - and suddenly had a...moment.

The original design of the Falcon was what was to become the Rebel Blockade Runner / Corellian Corvette. It started out very long and slender, but then sported the "hammerhead" bridge, which I think is pretty nifty. Although my favorites are the Star Destroyers and TIE Fighters, but that's just me.
The Nebulon B Frigate / Medical Frigate was inspired by an Outboard motor, only turned horizontally. (The engines on the back being the motor housing on the outboard)
as for languages and such, they did just about everything, mixing languages, garbling words/sounds, fast forward, reversing...Something that would put Pink Floyd's "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave and Grooving With A Pict" to shame. hock:
