I went to school in NSW the 1980s and in my first year in High School we did a term of Latin, a term of French, and a term of German. This was meant as a primer for the following years where we could choose to study one of those three languages in more depth. I don't know when this changed but I doubt whether any of these languages are being offered today.
Agreed about the OPs sentiment but it isn't because of the suggested change of curriculum, but because we were stupid enough to elect someone like Abbott as PM. This moron is representing the rest of us on the world stage and he is a complete embarrassment.
