Gladiator II -- Well Not Yet ...
#24
Actually the solution for how to make a sequel when the principal (see what I did, there is a clue there) characters are dead is relatively straightforward and is already a tried and tested method.

The beginning of Gladiator started with the dream sequence of the hand in the wheat field. what followed therefore was subsequently a dream of Maximus, an alternative Hollywood universe with all the wrong costumes and illogical Roman history which all bore no relation to the Roman world we all know and love.

Gladiator 2 can therefore begin with the same opening sequence with the hand in the wheat field then a cut to a close up of Russell Crowe's face then the new film can commence, the camera panning back to show an accurately equipped Roman general who sees a robin on a branch, pauses to reflect on what might have been, before turning away as a column of proper Roman auxiliary cavalry ride past and as the camera pans even further back a whole Roman army in accurate kit and field artillery is revealed....... snap out of it Graham now who is it who is having a dream!!!!

Graham.
"Is all that we see or seem but a dream within a dream" Edgar Allan Poe.

"Every brush-stroke is torn from my body" The Rebel, Tony Hancock.

"..I sweated in that damn dirty armor....TWENTY YEARS!', Charlton Heston, The Warlord.
