Since I knew I was rebuilding all the wood, and using all new leather, I just ripped all the brass off, pretty much toasting the original leather in the process. I was careful to keep the chape intact as I removed it. If I recall correctly I slide putty knife blade under the edge to cut as much glue a possible away. The palmettes were seperate pieces already.<br>
