Using Rome: Total War in the Classroom
#2
Unfortunately, TW is just an action game with a historical feeling. The mechanics are all wrong and the tactics encouraged as unhistorical as they can possibly get. It in no way can be used as a tool to seriously study battles of any era, especially those in which Romans participated, but it can be an interesting way to draw students' attention and raise an interest to further study the issue or history in general, exactly like movies and cartoons.

This article's claim that RTW is realistic as to its combat mechanics makes me really question whether its author has any idea of what he is talking about.

A good tool to raise interest in class? Absolutely! "Faithful" simulation? Nope! No way!
