Traians column
#22
The Trajan's column was still not been scientifically investigated by color.
Perhaps such a book can take the discussion? Then my goal was achieved!
Soon as new information is available, it can be incorporated in a new edition.
I spoke with Prof. Brinkmann (Colourful Gods) and with Mr. Ostergaard (Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek) and Thorsten Opper (British Museum) on my pictures. All three found the pictures really well and loved it.
I am studying for 22 years with the colors of Roman reliefs and sculptures.
On their results and of my research the colors are based in my book.
This includes the Roman wall paintings, mosaics and colored statues.
Certainly there are different views about the colors. Why not red or white tunics for soldiers? Even for me it was a conversion. There is a lot of evidence in the literature that white was only worn for certain events. This does not apply to late antiquity!
We must accept that the previous analysis is perhaps wrong.
This applies also for the red color.
Therefore, I have decided not to use these colors for the normal soldiers. Maybe I'm wrong yes but the results so far speak for my theory.
But you have new findings also may permit.
I can not enumerate all the literary references in my book. This is a new chapter for my future book.
In my book on the Trajan column, it is primarily to the realization that the ancient world was colorful and not white.
If this is accepted, then we are a big step further.
Whether a tunic is green or yellow this is not so importent. They were definitely not all the same color.
We must not forget the viewer of the column!
The images must be visible to an observer from afar.
Therefore, the figures to be clearly distinguished. And that's only if the colors are different.

So, I must return to the university.

See you
