Not sure of your attribution, Paul. Tribon has a lot of meanings--see below. I suspect that in the way of Ancient Greek, the garment partook of all of them--well rubbed, well-used, and an indication that one was well-trained... but I'm not sure that it's one particular garment--or particularly Spartan.
