August 28, 388 AD: Magnus Maximus surrenders in Aquileia to Theodosius after being defeated near Emona, Siscia (Sisak) and Poetovio (Ptuij/Pettau) and is executed.
August 28, 430 AD: Death of St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430) at Hippo in North Africa.
August 28, 475 AD: The western magister militum Orestes sends an army against Nepos, and forces him from Ravenna. Nepos flees to Salona in Dalmatia, where he will end his days as the (powerless) last western Roman emperor.
August 28, 476 AD: Odoacar captures and kills Orestes (father of the minor Romulus who acts as western emperor) near Placentia (Piacenza).
August 28, 489 AD: Battle of Isonzo, where the army of Odoacar is defeated by Theodoric, king of the Ostrogoths.
