Hmmm, that's not the message you should have gotten from that thread. If anything it is the use of "hoplon" for shield that is passe. Most modern scholars recognize that "aspis,' specifically "argive aspis" is much more common and specific.

Sorry I typed poorly. I was merely stating what my goal was when I first posted the thread. Having read everything posted to date I understand its a much more complex topic having to do with how specific you are being, what kind of sources a writer uses, as well as what is the commonly accepted interpretation of the time.

As is always the case, when you go back 2300 plus years nothing is ever simple.
