Quote:I would like to examine the references for the xyston being untapered. The Issus mosaic? Surely mosaics cannot be trusted to show the same degree of detail as a good vase painting? I would like to learn more on the subject. The Issus mosaic is one depiction I know, the other which springs to mind is the "kinch's tomb' depiction/painting.....in both, the large spear butt is shown with what may be a parallel sided shaft.....( but Connolly for example, sees these two as tapered - very difficult to tell)
