Very interesting article. You're brave to be galloping around bareback with sharp weapons in your hands, although I guess the helmet and boots would provide some protection in a fall.
I have one question about arms. Doesn't Xenophon say that cavalry carry either two palta (5-6' throwing-thrusting spears like the dismounted cavalryman on the Alexander Mosaic holds) or a longer xyston? He prefers a pair of palta. It sounds like you're carrying two types of spears?
