Hi Nero; nice gladius
I think I can give my poor help to you , because I have studied gladii for several years, and I'm also a collector of roman weapons ; that's is my main interest.
I have a lot of pics and details of swords type pompei , but unfortunately is quite impossible to post all them here . I guess you have to contact me pm , if you want.
But ,first of all, I want to tell you is always a mistake to think to ancient weapons by typologies. Modern people always are thinking in that way , because our items are from industries and thus all identic ( weapons as well as cars or the some type of shoes and so on), but gladii were not so, they were made by craftsmen and thus always different each other. Sometime just a bit , but different.
They are always different in lenght, weight, width , section , handle shape and type of iron. It is impossible to find a gladius exactly identic than another.
Two pics are not enough , anyhow it seems an old one , in the middle of the 1 century.
Hard to say how many pompei come from Belgium, also because often we ignore the findspot.
Is possible to have some other pics in higher resolution ? Beside, would be very interesting and important to know the weight , the tickness and the lenght of the tip .
Thank you .
