I enjoyed this new book from Simon Scarrow. It gets more into navy for those naval fans, with some interesting ideas. If a centurion was transferred to the fleet, would he take a pay cut? Did that actually happen where centurions passed between land and sea forces with regularity?
The story is a lot of fun. If you are observant, you may see reference to another author's "universe", but I think the inclusion wasn't jarring or distasteful, more like a homage to another writer.
Macro and Cato in 45AD go hunting for the pirates who have stolen a lost set of prophecies, which reflect upon the future of the Roman people. Plenty of action for most readers!
