How to make a embossed Vindonissa cingulum plate.
#32
When I made all of the Straubing Chamfrons I found that the best material was not pitch but a large block of Plastercine, that is the real older stuff not the more modern play dow. I did all the chaseing out of the figures and lines on a flat steel block, then worked the Repousse' from both sides. The inner surface hammering is where one works down the metal into the plastercine, then for the outer surface one fills the already beaten metal with the plastercine and then the fine detail of repousse' is carried out on the outer surface. It realy works well for once one fills a figure with the plastercine it is left on a cold steel block which helps harden it.
